My time at Make Happy has come to a close already, and no matter how excited I am to return home, it will be sad to leave this office. These fleeting experiences are often the fate of the interns.
In America, it would be the beginning of a great, or more likely mediocre, joke. The other day it was the beginning of a four-hour workshop with a London law firm. I was helping Make Happy’s partner, Fiona Riley, as she tried to encourage these people to talk about the future of their business.
Lord Leverhulme’s famous remark “I know half my advertising isn’t working, I just don’t know which half” seems somewhat redundant in our world of real time data analysis and last click attribution. However, one part of the marketing mix which remains extremely tricky to measure is social media.
Squash. Where I am from, it’s nothing but an oddly shaped, fleshy vegetable (or is it a fruit?). Occasionally it’s a sport. We certainly never drink squash. But during my first week at Make Happy I learned that in the UK, squash is a fruity juice concentrate. We all had an innocent laugh at my American naivety. I still think its weird.
I’m a fan of David Hieatt’s newish venture, Hiut Denim Co., which sells jeans and only jeans, that are made in a factory in Cardigan Bay, Wales. Real British jeans. Huit Denim also has a periodical newsletter and this was in today’s edition – not sure who actually came it with the list as there is no credit, but it is good.
Not sure whether you have come across the crowd funding website, Kickstarter. Founded in the USA in 2009 it provides a channel to raise funds for creative projects. As of yesterday, it had raised over USD507 million for 37,065 projects out of just under 89,000 launched projects.
This month Make Happy turned the grand old age of 3. They say all good things come in threes, like Back to the Future films, members of Destiny’s Child, Fifty Shades of Grey books (ahem not that we’ve read them)…so it got us to thinking about putting together some top three lists of our favourite things on the internet. So here they are in all their threesome glory:
