The Basadur Profile

At Make Happy we use the Basadur Profile to help you change your approach to problem solving and innovation. In this workshop we explore different approaches to problem solving amongst teams and individuals.

Why use the Basadur Profile?

Some organisations ask their employees to take personality tests to determine their individual thinking and problem-solving styles. However, employees fear the potential uses of the results. They wonder if they will be shuffled around or asked to change their personalities if their tests show them to be a poor fit for their job.
The Basadur Profile is much less threatening. It measures states, not traits. It is a tool to help individuals, teams and organisations understand how to increase creativity and innovation in a supportive environment. No one person’s profile, or style, is considered more “creative” than anyone else’s. Everyone contributes uniquely to the overall creative process.

Everyone wants innovation. But how is it achieved?

Often, an organisation’s approach to problem solving does not allow every team member’s talents to be fully utilised. The Basadur Profile, on the other hand, can help to identify strengths across a whole group, and make sure they’re all effectively deployed.
It provides a unique system to engage people in the innovation process and bring about real change. A proven, research-based instrument, it helps people identify and capitalise on their individual strengths, lets companies tap into the full range of thinking and resources at their disposal, and allows tasks to be tackled in the most creative, analytical and innovative way, from problem finding right through to implementation.
The Basadur Profile describes a continuous four-stage process of applied creativity and innovation, and is visualised in the image above:
  1. Generating: discovering problems to solve and opportunities to explore
  2. Conceptualising: defining those problems
  3. Optimising: developing new solutions
  4. Implementing: putting the solutions into action

The Basadur Team Profile – from the best individuals to the best teams

The Basadur Team Profile can then be used to map preferences across an organisation. Being armed with a clear understanding of individual working styles means you can build teams that work at full strength. The best teams have an appropriate mix of Generators, Conceptualisers, Optimisers and Implementers. With a diverse line-up, each member plays to their strengths – working at full capacity in their relevant stage of the process while others work at full capacity in theirs. People work together to move through each stage of the process. And because the Profile lets you see where imbalances exist, these can be addressed to give full rein to each person’s creativity and innovation.
