The Basadur Profile
What is the Basadur Profile?
This short survey (completed in advance of the session) helps individuals identify which of the four key problem solving styles they prefer:
1. Generating – finding problems/opportunities to work on
2. Conceptualising – generating solutions and ideas
3. Optimising – refining and developing ideas into viable solutions
4. Implementing – turning ideas into concrete actions

How will this help my team?
During this interactive workshop, we will explore the Profile and help participants:
- Gain deep understanding of their problem solving style and how it impacts their performance and working relationships
- Develop greater insight of how to lead and manage teams with diverse thinking styles
- Understand how to value, embrace and harness cognitive diversity
- Collaborate more effectively as a team and become more effective problem solvers
- Understand innovation as a repeatable process

The Basadur Profile describes a continuous four-stage process of applied creativity and innovation, and is visualised in the image above:
Generating: discovering problems to solve and opportunities to explore
Conceptualising: defining those problems
Optimising: developing new solutions
Implementing: putting the solutions into action
Each style of problem solving is fundamental and essential to the innovation process. However, differences in approach can create friction in teams and frustration in individuals.
That’s why we use the Basadur Profile. By gaining insight into yourself and others you can understand, appreciate and harness this diversity in thinking to collaborate and innovate more effectively.
The Basadur Profile is not a personality test that divides people into fixed categories. It is a tool to help individuals, teams and organisations understand how to increase creativity and innovation in a supportive environment.
